Game 2 of the NBA finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics started out strong, with Draymond Green and Jaylen Brown getting into a quarrel in the second quarter. Green fouled Brown on a three-pointer attempt, and the latter appeared to hit Green’s legs as the two players got tangled on the floor.
The referees reviewed the incident and no foul was called on either side. Green was already charged with a technical foul in the first quarter, so a second one would toss him out of the game.
Following the Warriors‘ win (series tied 1-1), Green joined ESPN’s SportsCenter to comment on this particular play, and whether or not he is receiving “different treatment” from the officiating crew.
“This is the NBA Finals,” Green commented. “I wear my badge of honor. It’s not that I’m saying they necessarily treat me different. I’ve earned differential treatment. I enjoy that, I embrace that. But I’m never going to let someone stand over me. I’m a man first. My kids are in the stands. I don’t play like those types of games. Whatever happens at that point happens.”
