‘I’m calling him out!’: Amir Khan urges Floyd Mayweather to face him in an exhibition bout just two weeks after retiring from boxing, as he tells the former five-weight world champion he needs a ‘real challenge’ after his routine outing against Don Moore
Amir Khan has thrown down the gauntlet to Floyd Mayweather and urged the former five-weight world champion to fight him in an exhibition bout – despite announcing his retirement from boxing earlier this month.
Khan, 35, chose to hang up his gloves on the back of a stoppage defeat against Kell Brook in February, calling time on his glittering 18-year career in the sport after being taken out by his domestic nemesis inside six rounds.
Yet just two weeks on from his decision to bow out from boxing, the Brit is now setting his sights on an exhibition against Mayweather.

After the latter dominated every round of his recent exhibition against Don Moore, Khan, who attended the bout, told him he needs a ‘real challenge’ next.
‘We saw the event today, I think Floyd needs a real challenge,’ he told videographer azizdxb.
‘We should do it, 100 per cent guys, let’s make it happen. I’m calling him out. Either hit me up or hit my brother up.’
Khan spent years chasing a lucrative shot at Mayweather, who retired with a flawless 50-0 record intact after his win over Conor McGregor in 2017.

Mayweather recently dominated a one-sided exhibition contest in Dubai against Don Mooore
He even prevailed in a 2014 Twitter poll held by the American to decide his next opponent, only to be controversially snubbed for Marcos Maidana.
Khan and Mayweather crossed paths out in Dubai earlier this month, with the former revealing that he urged him not to call time on his career.
He said: ‘Floyd said to me, “Look, we should get it on.” And I said “Brother, tomorrow I’m going to announce my retirement.” And he goes, “No, I don’t think you should”.
‘Obviously, pro fighters say to you all your life “we should fight each other” and they keep you on the side, on the bench and I’m like, forget that man, I want to be in control of myself.

‘When I call it a day, I call it a day. I don’t not call it a day because someone else is taking control, like Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao say now we’ll fight you.
‘(I was) waiting around and waiting around for them so I thought, nah man, I’ll do what’s best for me.’
Mayweather has taken part in several exhibitions since announcing his own retirement, knocking out Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nakumara in 2018 and going the distance against YouTuber Logan Paul last year before his clash with Moore.
