George Kambosos snaps back at reporter who told him his face looks like it’s been in a 12-round war after heavy loss to Devin Haney: ‘You jump in the ring with me, you’ll be the same’
You would have to be a brave man to challenge a wounded boxer who’s just lost his championship belts.
Yet one reporter was game enough to try and do just that to Aussie fighter George Kambosos Jnr in the wake of his lightweight unification title fight loss to American Devin Haney on Sunday.
He suffered a clear-cut loss over 12 disappointing rounds as he tried to claim all four world title belts at a packed Marvel Stadium.
Kambosos snaps back at a reporter after being told his face looks like it’s been in a war: ‘You jump in there with me, you’ll be the same’
ln the end the left jab of Haney was decided the outcome and the marks it left on Kambosos’ face were plain to see after the bout.
The Aussie fight was quick to dismiss any suggestions he was in pain from the contest, though.
‘My body does not feel like I’ve been through a 12-round war,’ Kambosos said in his press conference.
As the fighter began to compare the damage to what he received in his win over Teófimo López, a reporter interjected and said: ‘Your face looks like it, though.’
Kambosos was quick with his response.
‘Ah, that’s just a few marks, but if you jump in there with me too, you would be the same,’ he said.
Kambosos conceded he took a big risk in taking on Haney, admitting he could have taken an easier fight to protect the three world title belts he lost.
Kambosos was quick to laugh off his comments and hopes to come back for a re-match against Haney ‘hungrier than ever’
But he said risk-taking is in his blood and he would be looking to come back stronger than ever in their rematch.
‘I am the man in the arena. At the end of the day, I made this happen. If I didn’t choose this, to protect records, I could have got an easy fight and look at me, I knocked someone out in two rounds,’ Kambosos said.
‘But I take the risks and that’s part of the risk.
‘You take risks, you reap rewards, but it was his night tonight.
‘Be sure that the adversity that I have to go through now, I will be back hungrier than ever.’
