Bangladesh can heave a sigh of relief ahead of their white-ball series against West Indies as their injured pace bowling duo Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam have started bowling to prepare for the three ODIs and three T20Is, scheduled following the two-match Test series. Both of them were ruled out from the Test series against West Indies due to their respective injuries but team management included them for the white-ball assignment.
Shoriful, who was ruled out from the Test series against West Indies after injuring his wrist against Sri Lanka on the fourth day of the opening Test in Chattogram, started bowling at the BCB indoor premises from Saturday.
”Today I started my bowling and bowled six overs at sixty to seventy percent intensity,” Shoriful told Cricbuzz after completing his first day in the nets following the injury.
“Hopefully 9n one week or so I will be able to bowl at full rhythm,” he said. “Though Shoriful started his preparation recently it is not the case for Taskin as he began it on June 1 and now looks close to getting his full rhythm.
Taskin, who sustained a shoulder injury during the tour of South Africa, missed the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka and West Indies as he was going through a rehabilitation program to earn recovery.
”I am bowling four overs one day and eight overs the alternate day and following the instruction of the physio to get prepared for the white-ball series,” said Taskin. I am not feeling any pain at the moment and looking to regain my full rhythm before the tour of West Indies,” he said.
Team management is likely to include Taskin in the T20Is considering he is expected to be fully fit before the tourist flight, scheduled on June 23.
”While announcing the squad we mentioned that Taskin inclusion in the T20s is subject to fitness and if he is fit so naturally he will be included in the T20’s as well,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz.
The opening Test will be played in Antigua from June 16-20 while the second Test will be played in St Lucia from June 24-28.
The opening two T20Is will be played in Dominica respectively on July 2 and 3 while the third will be played in Guyana on July 7.
The three ODIs are also scheduled in Guyana on July 10, 13 and 16.
