As apologies go, a two-week trip to the Algarve is definitely up there.
And, after a bizarre turn of events on the final day of the Premier League season, that’s what’s been offered to Noel Gallagher by Manchester City defender Ruben Dias.
After what turned out to be the title-winning goal, Gallagher told talkSPORT that he required stitches as he was accidentally headbutted by Dias’ dad at the Etihad Stadium.
Man City staged an incredible comeback to beat Aston Villa having been 2-0 down, which saw them pip Liverpool to the title by just a point.
The former Oasis frontman revealed he was ‘covered in blood’ after the incident.
He was attended to by a St John’s Ambulance crew, which meant he missed the dying moments of the game.
And Gallagher has now spoken about Dias’ generous apology – but joked he won’t accept if the player’s dad is coming!
Noel told the Mirror: “I got a lovely text off the player the next day, Ruben Dias, who was like, ‘Look, you know, Dad’s in bits…we’d like to offer you to come and stay with us for two weeks in Portugal for your summer holidays, you and your family’.
“They’ve got some big house in the Algarve. I was like, ‘You know what mate? Is your old man going to be there? Because he’s a bit of a loose cannon’.”
Whilst a trip to Dias’ homeland might not get rid of the scar on Gallagher’s nose, it might soften the blow slightly – if City’s title win didn’t do that already.
Maybe lose the parka for the 30-degree heat though, Noel!
