Jack Grealish hasn’t improved since his £100million move to Manchester City last summer, says Tony Cascarino, despite a season working with Pep Guardiola.
The former Premier League striker went on to say that the ex-Aston Villa man should not be guaranteed a start for England at the World Cup later this year.
Grealish has had a slow start to life at Man City, scoring just three goals and providing three assists during his first season playing for the Premier League champions.
And Cascarino states that his performance for England against Italy highlighted the lack of development since his big-money move to the Cityzens.
“Jack Grealish was carrying the ball way too often and there were too many little flicks,” he told talkSPORT.
“He’s a talented lad, Jack – but I’m not sure if he’s a better player now than he was at Aston Villa.”
Cascarino also believes that the enigmatic midfielder isn’t ‘guaranteed’ a start at the World Cup in Qatar just based on ability, and would like to see more consistency from him.
“There have been games where I felt he’s made no impact at all,” the ex-Chelsea striker added.
“But, in his defence, it’s his first season at Manchester City and not everybody hits the ground running.
“Jack has taken time, we’ve not seen the performance levels of what he did at Villa on a regular basis.
“We’ve seen little moments, which is because he’s a talented boy and he’s got loads of ability. I don’t think anybody would question that.
“It’s whether he should be guaranteed a place in the [England] starting line-up. At the moment, I don’t think so.”
