Andy Murray suffered a defeat to Matteo Berrettini in the final of Stuttgart on Sunday afternoon with an injury suffered in the third set a cause for concern.
Murray was playing in his first ATP final on grass since 2016 in a good run where he knocked out Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios on his way.
Berrettini was last year’s Wimbledon finalist and won 6-4 5-7 6-3 as he ramps up his preparations for the next Grand Slam.
The worrying moments for the 35-year-old Brit came as he had to call for the physio twice in the third set.
He could be heard saying to his team: “From the back it’s fine but there’s no chance I can serve properly.”
He had extensive treatment to his left groin/hip area and was visibly limping towards the end of the match.
It will be particularly concerning with Wimbledon starting in just two weeks’ time and is a tournament he has been particularly targeting.
Murray decided to, largely, skip the clay court season so he could have a strong run to the grass.
He is due to play at Queens next week in the final big tournament before Wimbledon, but his participation may be in doubt.
Speaking on court after the match, he said: “There’s been a lot of progress the last few weeks and I’m looking forward to what the future has to hold.
“Feeling a lot better about my game and hopefully my body can hold up a little while longer.”
