Newcastle winger Jacob Murphy was visibly delighted when he heard the Champions League anthem against AC Milan.
The Magpies are competing in their first Champions League match in 20 years at the San Siro, live on talkSPORT, with the clash currently goalless.
Eddie Howe’s side qualified for the illustrious competition thanks to their fourth-place finish in the Premier League last season.
And they have been drawn into this year’s ‘Group of Death’, with Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund their other opponents.
It was Milan who were up first for the Magpies, and Murphy was named in the starting XI.
As he lined up on the pitch prior to kick-off, he had a beaming smile across his face as the iconic Champions League anthem played out.
It was certainly a wholesome moment and Newcastle fans on social media shared his joy with one on X saying: “Jacob Murphy was all of us in this moment.”
“Jacob Murphy is ALL OF US!” added another as the reality sunk in.
A third said: “Look, whatever happens, we’re all Jacob Murphy.”
Murphy had never played European football at club level before their trip to the San Siro.
Despite being under the cosh for much of the first half, Newcastle were able to keep the score at 0-0 heading into the break.
