Masters, deep changes to Rory McIlroy’s bag

As the first major of the season approaches, Rory Mcilroy is preparing to unveil major changes to the composition of his bag. Rather disappointed with his driving performance during The Players, Rory McIlroy did not hesitate to explain on the evening of his missed cut that he was not satisfied with his Stealth 2 driver which he had been obliged to add to his bag after considering that the previous model was in danger of no longer passing the conformity tests due to significant wear on its face.

Rory McIlroy, situation

This week it’s an instagram account (@thecountryclubcollection), which announces that Rory McIlroy would have initiated profound changes in his bag in anticipation of the Masters (April 6-9 in Augusta), the only major tournament missing from the list of ex-world number 1.

During his training session in Georgia last week, however, the Northern Irishman played well with his equipment supplier’s new model, the Stealth 2, but with a slightly shorter handle. It would seem that the planned changes therefore do not concern the driver who had given him so many problems at TPC Sawgrass with only 13 fairways hit out of 28.

Early in the season McIlroy had been spotted wearing Titleist Bob Vokey wedges and when asked, he said TaylorMade had given him more freedom for the first year of his new contract. To find out more about these important changes, we will therefore certainly have to wait for the first group match of the world number 3 at the World Match Play Championships.

McIlroy will face Scott Stallings in Austin on Wednesday, and the meeting is scheduled for 10:26 a.m. (4:26 p.m. in France). The Rules of Golf are a set of standard rules and procedures by which the sport of golf should be played.

They are jointly written and maintained by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, the governing body for golf worldwide, outside of the United States and Mexico, which are governed by the United States Golf Association.

An expert commission made up of members of the R&A and USGA, oversees and refines the rules every four years. The latest revision has been in force since January 1, 2016. Changes to the rules of golf generally fall into two main categories: those that improve understanding and those that in certain cases reduce penalties to ensure balance.

The rule book, entitled “Rules of Golf”, is published on a regular basis and also includes rules governing amateur status. In Italy it is up to Federgolf to supervise the competitions by enforcing the rules issued by the R & A, checking that these rules are observed by the Clubs, Associations and their members and manages the resulting sporting justice, protecting their interests abroad.
