The Milwaukee Brewers placed right-handed pitcher Brandon Woodruff on the 15-day injured list on Monday with a right ankle sprain, retroactive to May 28.
The 29-year-old righty sustained the injury in his last start on Friday against the Cardinals in St. Louis. Brewers manager Craig Counsel told the media Woodruff was feeling pain while throwing and isn’t sure of a timetable for when he will return.
The timing isn’t great for the Brewers, who also had to put Freddy Peralta on IL due to a strained shoulder. Woodruff is hopeful, however, that he won’t be out for long.
“I don’t think it’s going to be a monthlong deal or nothing,” Woodruff told the media.”I’m hoping it’s going to be a couple of weeks and I get to be back out there.”
Milwaukee remains in first place in the NL Central, three-and-a-half games in front of the Cardinals.
