The Detroit Tigers recalled a handful of players on Monday ahead of their series-opener against the Minnesota Twins. The most notable addition is utility player Kody Clemens, the youngest son of seven-time Cy Young Award-winner Roger Clemens.
Clemens, 26, was reportedly on the bus with his Triple-A team, the Toledo Mud Hens, when he got the call he was going up to the big club, ESPN reported.
The third-round selection in the 2018 MLB Draft was added to the Tigers’ roster in 2021 but has not yet played in an MLB game.
Clemens is hitting .283/.316/.527 with eight home runs, 31 RBI and 52 hits through 45 games played for Toledo this season.
In a coordinating move, the Tigers placed outfield Robbie Grossman on IL.
