ITALY’S NEW ERA
Italy’s 3-0 defeat to Argentina at Wembley on Wednesday in the ‘Finalissima’ – a clash between the reigning European and South American champions – led to Roberto Mancini declaring that a “new cycle will begin” against Germany.
There have been widespread calls for a rejuvenation and freshening up of the national team after a difficult few months.
It was less than a year ago that the Azzurri were crowed Euro 2020 champions in London, but since then they’ve suffered the humiliation of a World Cup play-off defeat to North Macedonia and struggled for form.
Mancini is now hoping to turn over a new leaf, starting tonight in Bologna.
