German tennis legend Boris Becker followed Alexander Zverev’s French Open run and wished his fellow compatriot a quick recovery, Mischa Zverev revealed to BILD. Zverev, 25, reached the French Open semifinal before sustaining a horrific injury versus Rafael Nadal.
In the 12th game of the second set, Zverev badly rolled his ankle and that was the end of his French Open campaign. Nadal and Zverev were in the middle of a tense battle before the German sustained an unfortunate injury.
Becker, who was recently sentenced to two and a half years in jail, was able to follow Wimbledon. “Boris said he followed what was happening at the tournament and wishes Sascha all the best and a quick and good recovery,” Mischa told BILD.
Zverev tore several ligaments in his ankle
Zverev is now likely set to miss extended time and he has already withdrawn from Halle. Zverev hasn’t yet pulled out of Wimbledon but it would be a big surprise if he was able to compete at Th All England Club.
“Hey guys! I am now on my way back home. Based on the first medical checks, it looks like I have torn several lateral ligaments in my right foot. I will be flying to Germany on Monday to make further examinations and to determine the best and quickest way for me to recover.
I want to thank everyone all over the world for the kind messages that I have received since yesterday. Your support means a lot to me right now! And many thanks to my friends from @goodwill_private_aviation for taking such good care of me in the given circumstances.
I will try to keep you updated as much as possible on further developments. See you next time @rolandgarros!” Zverev wrote on Instagram. During the French Open, Zverev underlined that he is 25 and that he is at the stage of his career where he simply needs to figure out how to win a Grand Slam.
