Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner has announced that he is doing well in his recovery from a knee injury and he is targeting to return to action in Eastbourne next week. Sinner last played at the French Open, where he was forced to retire his round-of-16 match versus Andrey Rublev.
After retiring his French Open last-16 match, Sinner was forced to miss the start of the grass season as he pulled out of this week’s ATP event in Halle. However, Sinner is doing well in his recovery and he is expected to kick off his grass season next week in Eastbourne.
“Ciao everyone, sorry I’ve been a little quiet on here, it was really frustrating for me to withdraw from Roland Garros, but I wanted to update you that my knee is feeling better and I’m preparing with my team for Eastbourne.
I’m excited to head over to the UK tomorrow for the grass court season,” Sinner announced on his social media.

Sinner set to debut in Eastbourne
Sinner, 20, will be making his debut on the grass courts of Eastbourne next week.
Grass is a very tricky surface and it will be interesting to see how will Sinner’s troublesome knee hold up during the grass season. Against Rublev, Sinner actually felt good at the start of the match but then started experienced major discomfort.
“What happened? It happened that I felt quite good or quite okay in the first set,” Sinner explained. “And then after, at 2-1 when I was serving, a felt a big, I don’t know how you call it, yeah, something.
And from that point I felt it too much. And then I was hoping that it’s going to go away, but it didn’t. So playing like this was, unfortunately, not the right thing to do. And, yeah, let’s see what what, we’ll test tommorow and the next day, so let’s see.” It remains to be seen how far can Sinner go in his Eastbourne debut.
