Liverpool star Diogo Jota held up a Luis Diaz shirt after scoring the opener against Nottingham Forest.
Tragedy hit Diaz after his parents were kidnapped in Colombia and he was not in the Liverpool squad to face Forest on Sunday.
Starting in his place, Jota opened the scoring after latching onto the rebound of Darwin Nunez’s shot that Matt Turner saved.
Immediately, the Portugal international raced to the bench at Anfield and held aloft a Diaz shirt to show his support for his teammate.
Before kick-off, Jurgen Klopp admitted that the forward was missing from the squad.
He said: “It’s a worrying situation for all of us and it was a pretty tough night.
“I have never had that before. It’s a new experience I never needed.”
Liverpool also posted a statement after reports broke early on Saturday morning.
The club’s statement read: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm it is aware of an ongoing situation involving the family of Luis Diaz in Colombia.
“It is our fervent hope that the matter is resolved safely and at the earliest possible opportunity. In the meantime, the player’s welfare will continue to be our immediate priority.”
While conflicting reports have emerged over his father’s safety, Diaz’s mother has since been returned.
Colombia president Gustavo Petro said: “In an operation in Barrancas, Luis Diaz’s mother has been rescued, we continue the search for the father.”
Against Forest, Liverpool went on to double their lead shortly after.
Some neat work from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai found Darwin Nunez unmarked, who converted a tap-in to make it 2-0 before half-time.
