Novak Djokovic has once again underlined that he is “motivated by records” and admitted that he finds it “strange” that some other players are not that open about wanting to achieve the greatest accomplishments. Throughout his career, Djokovic never hid the fact that he wanted to own the all-time Grand Slam record and break other major records.
This year, Djokovic improved to 24 Grand Slams and officially became the sole owner of the all-time Slam record for the first time in his career. But whenever Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were asked about the all-time Slam record or the GOAT title, they would suggest that they would feel fine even without those records and titles.
“I love winning. There is no doubt about it. I’m inspired and motivated by records. I mean, for me, that’s completely normal. Like, being honest about it and being your authentic self, and expressing what you feel.
I’m just trying to be true to myself and to others and say what my goals and objectives are. So it’s as simple as that,” Djokovic told Jon Wertheim on 60 Minutes, via tennis.com.
Nadal made an interesting Djokovic comment in September
After Djokovic won his 24th Grand Slam title at the US Open and went two Slams ahead of Nadal, the Spaniard made a comment that quickly went viral. “I’m not frustrated for a simple reason – within my possibilities, I’ve done all I can to make things happen for me.
I think Novak feels more intensely [about] this than I do. Had he not achieved it, it may have been a bigger frustration for him,” Nadal told Movistar+. When Djokovic was asked about Nadal’s comments, he refused to get into a war or words with the Spaniard.
“I saw that it went quite viral, that people were talking about it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and how they interpret someone else in that context. That’s all I can say. Rafa is a great champion, I greatly appreciate and respect him as a champion, as my biggest rival, as a man and a tennis player who has largely participated in shaping my game and the results I have achieved,” Djokovic told Sportal when asked about Djokovic’s comments.
