Barbora Krejcikova took to Instagram to share some good but also bad news as the Czech tennis star revealed she is making good progress with her back injury but also added that she is still recovering from the flu she recently caught.
After losing to Aryna Sabalenka in the Australian Open quarterfinal defeat, Krejcikova resumed action in early February at a WTA 500 event in Abu Dhabi. At the Abu Dhabi Open, Krejcikova started with a win over Sara Sorribes Tormo before Liudmila Samsonova ended her run in the quarterfinal after beating her with a 7-5 6-4 scoreline.
After kicking off her Middle East swing in Abu Dhabi, Krejcikova was also scheduled to compete in the WTA 1000 tournaments in Doha and Dubai. But world No. 12 Krejcikova ended up missing both Doha and Dubai as a back injury was cited as the reason for her withdrawals.
Krejcikova shares update after missing Doha and Dubai
“Hi guys, I’d like to share with you some news about my health condition,” Krejcikova started in her message.
“After getting injured in Doha, I caught severe flu. I’m still recovering from it. However, my back injury from Doha improved and I got green light to start slowly working off the court. I hope to start hitting some balls in next couple of days, when my coughing will go away.”
If Krejcikova is able to return to the practice court in a couple of days, she will presumably try to return to action at a WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, which starts on March 6th.
So far this season, Krejcikova has competed in just three tournaments. After starting her season with a first-round loss at the Adelaide International, Krejcikova bounced back at the Australian Open by reaching the quarterfinal. Then as mentioned above, Krejcikova made the Abu Dhabi quarterfinal before losing to Samsonova.
For Krejcikova, the main thing now is to get back to feeling fully healthy and not experience any further health setbacks.
