Welsh veteran Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) will enter the decisive 18.6km uphill time trial on the fearsome Monte Lussari with an advantage of 26 seconds on Slovenia’s Roglic (Jumbo Visma) in a winner-takes-all scenario for the climax of the 106th edition of the Giro.
The Slovenian was in bullish mood after Stage 19, telling reporters:
“I’m happy. It was fun and tomorrow we go full again. It’s good, eh, I got a bit of legs back, so tomorrow we go full.”
With Sunday’s final stage a pan-flat run around Rome for the sprinters, the general classification battle will almost certainly be decided against the clock on Stage 20 – but who will emerge victorious?
